We are an independent, not-for-profit organisation committed to enhancing relationships to foster personal and community wellbeing.

At Relationships Australia Canberra & Region we believe everyone is entitled to positive and healthy relationships, whether these relationships are at work or in our personal lives. Our aim is to ease the suffering and distress of vulnerable and disadvantaged people, building their physical, social and emotional well-being.

Our History

Relationships Australia was established in 1948 to support Australian soldiers returning from World War II to reconnect with their families. In 1994 our name was changed from the National Marriage Guidance Council of Australia to Relationships Australia to reflect the changing needs and family choices of Australians.

Our Board

Relationships Australia Canberra & Region is governed by a Board which operates within the parameters of our Constitution to ensure the wellbeing of people living in the ACT and southern NSW.

The Board exercises a consultative and participative approach to its areas of governance responsibility: leadership, planning, policy, monitoring results, financial matters, employment of CEO, risk management, accountability, external relationships, and Board performance.  The Board has a mix of skills, including in the areas of finance, legal, regional and rural, research and policy, marketing and communications, Indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities and consumer groups.
