Gambling harm and the ACT

The ACT Gambling Counselling and Support Service has developed visual and audio animations to raise awareness about the concept of harm caused by gambling, and encourage help seeking behaviour.

It’s often difficult to reach the wider ACT community to talk about gambling harm and highlight that it can cause a variety of issues for people in their lives. Much of the conversations and advertising about gambling puts the responsibility on the individual, increasing shame and stigma for them and the people around them. This often acts as a barrier for people seeking help.  Here at the ACT Counselling and Support Service, over half of our clients report that gambling has been an issue for several years before seeking help.

The animation will be used on radio, TV and social media to help normalise the concept of gambling harm in our community, reassure people that it’s not just them and that support is available, they are not alone.
