Redress Scheme Support Service

What is the Redress Scheme Support Service?

The National Redress Scheme provides support to people who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse. Relationships Australia Canberra & Region is a National Redress Support Service provider. We provide a free and confidential support service for people who are considering applying or want to apply for the National Redress Scheme.

In July 2018, the Commonwealth Government established a National Redress Scheme to provide support to people who were sexually abused as children while in care of an institution. The establishment of the Redress Scheme was a recommendation from the findings of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. The Redress Scheme is one way state and territory Governments, churches, charities and other non-government organisations are working to acknowledge the harm caused and provide support to people who experienced institutional child sexual abuse.

The Redress Scheme commenced on the 1st of July 2018 and run for 10 years. The National Redress Scheme is an alternative to seeking compensation through the courts. The Redress Scheme Support Service can:

• provide information on the Redress Scheme.

• provide information on who is eligible for the Redress Scheme.

• support you through the application process.

• provide information on what to expect through the application process.

• support you to access legal and financial advice.

• help you understand your redress outcome
